"Isabella"
Winners Bitch at the 2009 American Brittany Club National Specialty Show
2nd Money Bitch at the American Brittany Club Eastern Futurity 2010
Isabella is one in a million. Never in my wildest dreams did I think when I contacted her breeder about a show dog, that I would bring home the amazing dog she has become. Bred by Joan Bevers of Shady Brook Kennel, she far exceeded my dreams and has come to mold new ones in their wake. Joan and I have developed a wonderful friendship as well which makes each and every accomplishment so much sweeter when you share it with someone you care about.
I first got an inkling on just how special my girl was when I brought her to a show at just 5 months of age, to socialize and see Joan again. She quickly became the hot topic of the weekend and she wasn't even old enough to show yet! Part of that, was me being so new to dog shows. Isabella and I struggled at first, she was routinely last in her class despite moving well and standing beautifully. I was learning, and she looked very mature for her age group. In an effort to hide her age so to speak, we placed her in the little-used American Bred class, which she promptly took her first Best of Breed at 10 months old her first time in that class! The judge later asked in the Group how old she was, not expecting the answer she was given!
Izzy got her first chance at something great when she traveled with Linda McCartney-Roy and her daughter Kristyn to the National Specialty Show in Nov 2009. That show wasn't even on my radar but Linda convinced me to give her a shot. Kristyn handed her beautifully to an amazing win, taking her first 5 point major. It never would have happened without them! Kristyn has since handled Izzy at the Futurity, and has always excelled with her. They have quite the bond. I handled Isabella myself to her second major, completing her Championship and going Best of Breed over a Special her very next show after Nationals. I have since owner-handled her to her Grand Championship and have enjoyed every minute!
Isabella is now semi-retired to spend some time in the whelping box while she matures into her prime. She will be shown here and there, eventually if all goes well, coming back out with Kristyn in the future. There is no one else I would rather have at the end of her lead. Izzy's story is far from over, she has so much to contribute. She is always an ambassador for the breed with her sweet personality and a set of freckles no one seems to be able to resist. She is also my best friend, and I am thankful for her every single day.
